Why hotspot speed might be slower in other devices

Update Time: 2024-12-27 16:25:28

It's common to experience slower speeds when using a personal hotspot than your phone's regular data connection.

Here are some potential reasons:

1. Network Congestion:

  • Carrier network load: If many people use the network in your area, it can lead to slower speeds for everyone, including your hotspot.

  • Hotspot device overload: Too many devices connected to your hotspot can cause congestion. Try after disconnecting other devices.

2. Frequency Band:

  • 2.4GHz vs. 5GHz: Most phones offer both frequency bands for Wi-Fi. 5GHz generally provides faster speeds but has a shorter range. Ensure your hotspot is set to 5GHz if possible.

3. Device Capabilities:

  • Wi-Fi adapter: The Wi-Fi adapter in the device connected to your hotspot can impact speeds. Older devices might have slower adapters.

  • Software limitations: Some Websites or app systems might have limitations on Wi-Fi speeds.

4. Physical Environment:

  • Distance: Being too far from the hotspot can reduce speed.

  • Obstructions: Walls, furniture, and other objects can interfere with the Wi-Fi signal.

5. Hotspot Settings:

  • Bandwidth limitations: Make sure not device limitation is applied by user

  • Incorrect settings: Ensure your hotspot is configured correctly, with the right security settings and channel.

Troubleshooting Tips:

  • Check your carrier's data plan: Verify if there are any hotspot data limits or speed restrictions.

  • Reduce connected devices: Try disconnecting unnecessary devices from the hotspot.

You can follow the path to adjust your Blocklist, Maximum allowed connections, Data restriction, and manage Connected Devices.

  • Optimize hotspot settings: Ensure you're using the 5GHz band or more ( if available) and check for any other relevant settings

  • Restart your devices: Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve temporary issues.

  • Reduce connected devices: Try disconnecting unnecessary devices from the hotspot.

  • Test in different locations: Move closer to the hotspot or try a different location to assess signal strength.

  • Update device software: Keep your phone and connected devices up-to-date.
