Laptop takes a long time to shut down and hanging

Update Time: 2023-08-10 16:50:46

Problem causes:

  1. If this issue happens only once: When you install drivers or Windows updates before the shutdown, your computer may spend some time configuring Windows and modifying the configuration.

  2. If this issue happens frequently: There may be some programs or processes that are running in the background, and your computer needs time to close these tasks before shutting down.

Solution:

For the issue happens only once, no additional processing is required. However, if you realize that this issue is happening more frequently, perform the following to resolve this issue.

1. Test whether it is a background application that affects the shutdown speed.

Take note of the time taken to shut down the computer and compare it with the previous shutdown duration.

Power on your computer, wait for 2 minutes, then press the Alt and F4 keys at the same time. Select Shut down in the drop-down list, and click OK.

You can also click the Windows icon and then the Power icon, and select Shut down.

Check whether this resolves the issue.

2. End tasks running in the background.

Before shutting down your computer, close all apps or programs. Press the Ctrl, Alt and Del keys at the same time and open Task Manager. Click View and then Group by type, click programs with high CPU or space consumption. Click End task. Shut down your computer and check whether shutdown time is shorter now.

B. Click Disk Cleanup under the General tab. Perform the same operations for other drives on the computer.

5. Restore factory settings

Shut down the laptop completely and then turn it on again. During the boot process, press F8 continuously to enter safe mode, select Troubleshooting, and use Restore this PC to restore the computer to the factory state.

Note:

1. If the above methods cannot solve the problem, it is recommended to back up the data and bring the purchase invoice to a nearby offline realme Service Center for testing.

2. Factory reset will delete the data in the C drive (including personal files such as desktop files, downloads, documents, etc.), and the files in other drive letters will be retained. Please always back up the personal files in the C drive.
