3. Troubleshooting method
Step 1: Check for Google app updates
On your Android phone or tablet, in the Google Play Store.
Tap Update. If the page says "Installed," you already have the latest version.
Step 2: Check if Hey Google is turned on
On your phone, say "Hey Google, open Assistant settings."
Under "Settings," tap Voice Match.
Turn on Hey Google and refer to set up Voice Match.
Tip: If you're signed in to a Google Workspace for Education account on your device and can't turn on "Hey Google," the admin might have turned off settings that are needed for "Hey Google" to work. Please contact your admin for more details.
Step 3: Check your Assistant's language
On your phone, say "Hey Google, open Assistant settings."
Under "All settings," tap Languages.
If you need to change your Assistant’s language:
Tap your current language.
Choose a new language to use with your Assistant.
Step 4: Turn off Power saving
On your phone, open Settings.
Tap Battery:
Power saving: Tap Power saving > Turn off now.
Step 5: Say "Hey Google"
To find out if you fixed the issue, say "Hey Google." To make sure the Google Assistant picks up your voice:
If you’re in a loud area, turn off background noise or go somewhere quieter.
Say "Hey Google" like you would in a normal conversation.
